Gospel musician, Francis Amo, says he feels no disappointment for not winning an award at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs), insisting that trophies have never defined his journey in music.
Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM on Sunday, the singer made it clear that his motivation has always gone beyond plaques and public validation. According to him, the artistes he admired while growing up were more focused on impact than accolades — a mindset that continues to guide his career.
“I'm not disappointed that I've never won an award at TGMAs. Because of the people I was looking up to when I was coming up in the industry, I've not been pressured to win an award,” Amo said.
The gospel act stressed that recognition should be organic, not forced or lobbied for. He expressed confidence that awards would come naturally when the time is right, driven solely by hard work and consistency.
“I believe when the time is right, the awards will come. I know that when they want to award an artist or someone, they call him, but they don't give him conditions before he is awarded. They're getting it because of their hard work,” he explained.
Amo also took a firm stance against voting-based award schemes, arguing that popularity contests should not outweigh merit.
“I don't believe in voting schemes before someone will be given an award,” he added.
