Ghanaian highlife artiste Phatelinuks, popularly known as Mr. PL, has emphasized the importance of learning to perform with a live band.
He believes it's a critical skill every serious artiste must develop to succeed in the music industry.
Speaking on Ahomka FM, Phatelinuks stated that many upcoming artistes rely too heavily on instrumentals and backing tracks, limiting their growth and performance versatility.
He stressed that live band performances expose artistes to real musical discipline and help them understand rhythm, tempo, timing, and vocal control.
Phatelinuks explained that performing with a live band demands higher preparation and professionalism, essential for major concerts, festivals, and corporate shows. He noted that artistes who lack this experience often struggle on stage.
The singer believes mastering live band performances gives artistes flexibility to explore and perform across different genres, not just highlife.
"When artistes get used to performing with a live band, it becomes easier for them to perform other genres of music," he said.
Phatelinuks emphasized that live instrumentation is core to highlife music's identity and global appeal. Returning to this foundation will preserve authenticity and appeal to younger audiences.
He encouraged record labels, event organizers, and radio stations to support live band performances by creating platforms for live music sessions.
