The reason for the break-up of NAKOREX, one-time hiplife group, is not clear. But one thing is apparent — music will once again bring them together on Friday, August 1 on the platform of Ghana's most prestigious beauty pageant — Miss Ghana.
It was music that brought one-time top highlife group NAKOREX together but the members split about 10 years ago.
The reason for their break-up is not clear. But one thing is apparent — music will once again bring them together on Friday, August 1 on the platform of Ghana's most prestigious beauty pageant — Miss Ghana.
The former members of NAKOREX, Amandzeba (Nat Brew), Akosua Adjepong and Rex Omar have finally signed a deal with the Miss Ghana organisers, Sparrow Productions Limited, to regroup and jam with patrons under the NAKOREX name “for the love of music”.
According to the organiser of the pageant, Miss Shirley Frimpong-Manso, NAKOREX had a unique style, which won them many fans in the 90s, “so we wanted to bring them back together to re-enact those golden moments for the pleasure of the precious patrons of the Miss Ghana show”.
Music star of the moment, Kwaw Kesse, popularly known as Abodam, is slated to share the stage with NAKOREX.
Also on the bill are Ghana Music Award winners, 5Five plus a yet-to-be named group that will give the show a traditional music and dance twist.
This year's event, according to the organisers, is dedicated to disadvantaged women in Ghana. All 22 contestants, she said, would engage in programmes that champion the cause of women.
The 22 beauties, who will walk, talk and display intelligence, beauty and eloquence in a bid for the crown, include Huberta Quartey, Naa Adoley Fleischer, Shirley Nwangere, Akpene Adom, Maame Efua Akyeampong, Mawuse Appea, Hilda Tweneboah Affum, Esther Yayra Attipoe and Gladys Tetteh.
The others are Henrietta Takyi, Jamila Suleiman, Nana Aba Nunoo, Olivia Naa Addy, Senam Akorli, Anastasia Gyamfi, Hannah Neequaye, Rita Yeboah and Pamela Bediako.
The rest are Fauzia Mohammed, Dorcas Acquah, Jane Brew and Sandra Twumasi.
This year's Miss Ghana pageant is sponsored by Somovision, Airport West Hotel, Maxim Hair Products and GTV. Simbins Furniture, Danny Décor, Benita at Winnigol and FC Beauty Klinik are also supporting the event.
