Ghanaian actress and media personality Xandy Kamel has opened up about one of the most devastating periods of her life - losing her teenage son, while going through a divorce from her ex-husband Kaninja.
In an interview on 'The Delay Show', aired over the weekend, Xandy Kamel recalled how her oldest son drowned in the Sakomono river in Accra after writing his BECE exams.
She said "He went to write BECE and when he returned home, there was nobody around so he stepped out with his friends to swim. I was home when my mother called that someone had told her about the unfortunate news."
At her lowest moment, Xandy said her then-husband refused to accompany her to identify the body and make arrangements for the burial.
In her words, "I told my husband that my child had drowned, so he should accompany me. He told me he couldn't."
Shockingly, on the day of the funeral, Kaninja was celebrating his birthday instead of supporting his grieving wife.
Xandy said losing her son at 16 after raising him, only to go through the trauma alone, was "terrible".
Her marriage to Kaninja lasted just one year, ending in a divorce amid allegations of his infidelity after the duo famous couple tied the knot in 2020.
