The Supreme Court has scheduled the hearing for the case filed by Artiste Manager Mark Darlington Osae against the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) on January 17, 2024.
Osae contests the FDA's ban on celebrities advertising alcoholic beverages which took effect on 2015.
He argues that the directive violates Articles 17 (1) and 17 (2) of the 1992 Constitution, ensuring equality before the law and prohibiting discrimination based on factors such as economic status, gender, race, ethnic origin, color, and religion. In defense, the FDA claims the ban aims to protect minors from the influence of alcohol.
Various entertainment industry stakeholders, including Sarkodie and Bullet, were seen at the Supreme Court.
In social media videos, Sarkodie appeared in corporate attire, accompanied by his entourage, including manager Angel.
The Sarkcess Label boss and his team were in court with the plaintiff's lawyer, Bobby Banson. Representatives from King Promise and R2Bees’ camps were also present, interacting with lawyers after the proceedings.
