Sarkodie misses out on another Grammy nomination; full list of African nominees

Celebrated Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie is missing out on the 2023 Grammy Awards nomination.

Fans of the multiple BET Award-winning rapper were in anticipation of seeing him named on the 65th Grammy nomination list.

However, despite his "On my way to Grammys" statement in his 2013 single, "Illuminati," the rapper will probably wait another year.

The 65th Grammy Award nominees were officially unveiled by the Recording Academy in a live event on Tuesday, November 15.

Sarkodie's name was missing however, Ghanaian-born, U.K.-based reggae superstar Rocky Dawuni has added another Grammy nomination to his list of musical accomplishments with his “Neva Bow Down” track.

This is his third and second consecutive nomination after 2016 and 2022, where he lost on both occasions.

The three-time Ghanaian nominee will be battling in the "Global Music Performance" category with his African colleague and a one-time winner from Nigeria, Burna Boy.

Rocky Dawuni’s second nomination was for Best Global Music Album for his "Voice of Bunbon, Vol. 1," which he lost to his African colleague, Beninese singer and songwriter, Angelique Kidjo, in the 64th Annual Grammy Awards in 2022.

He previously had his first nomination in 2016 for "Best Reggae Album," which he also lost.

The Ghanaian musician will be looking forward to winning his first award after two failed attempts.

Other African artistes who grabbed nominations include Beninese legend Angélique Kidjo for "Best Global Music Album," Burna Boy of Nigeria for "Global Album and Music Performance Categories," and Uganda's Eddy Kenzo for "Global Music Performance Category."

Others are South Africa's Wouter Kellerman (Global Music Performance); the fastest-rising Nigerian female songstress, Tems, also got nominated for "Wait For U," her collaboration with Future and Drake, under the categories of Best Melodic Rap Performance and Best Rap Song.

Angélique Kidjo was again nominated for her Woman King song "Keep Rising" under the "Best Song Written for Visual Media" category.

The 2023 Grammys, officially known as the 65th Grammy Awards, will be held on February 5, 2022, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. They will be broadcast live on the CBS Television Network and streamed live and on-demand on Paramount Plus.
