Members of the Selection Committee of the Ghana Music Awards (GMA) met on Saturday, April 12 to cast their votes for the forthcoming Ghana Music Awards.
The votes by members represent 35 percent of total votes in the selection of winners for the various categories of the award. The public holds 35 percent and the remaining 30 percent of the decision making process belongs to the Planning Committee.
However for industry related awards or non-public voting awards, the votes cast by the Selection Committee represents 50 percent of the decision process while the remaining 50 percent rests with the Planning Committee. The selection committee is made up of entertainment and art journalists, radio presenters, disk jockeys, art critics and regional executives of the Musician Union of Ghana (MUSIGA).
During the voting process, members of the Selection Committee listened to all the songs and albums under contention for Ghana Music Awards and they were expected to make informed decisions based on the definitions made for each category of the awards.
The results of the voting would be collated and added to results from the public and Planning Committee votes, by KPMG the official event statisticians for the GMA. The winners for each category would be concealed and revealed only on the night of the awards. The industry awards would be held on Wednesday April, 23 and the main event would follow on April 25.
