Celebrity Politics Destroyed My Acting Career – Paa George
OCT 3, 2017 LISTEN

Veteran actor George Appiah Kubi, commonly known as Paa George, has been missing in action in recent movies and undoubtedly, many movie lovers would be wondering the whereabouts of the actor who started his acting career far back in 1963.

Well, Paa George in an interview has disclosed what has kept him out of the movies and virtually rendering him unemployed for some years now.

The ace actor who was reigning together with actors including Katawere, S.K. Oppong of Kantata fame, Super OD, just to mention a few, has disclosed that his long time acting career has been destroyed by politics, for which Ghanaians no longer see him feature in movies like he used to.

According to Paa George, the majority of movie producers fuse the movie business with politics and so “when you are seen on the other political divide, then you are their enemy.”

Narrating how his political affiliation betrayed his acting career on the Delay Show last Sunday, Paa George disclosed that during his days with Concert Party, the NDC government then led by former President Jerry John Rawlings, promised members of the party a revamp of the movie industry.

As pioneers of the concert party, Paa George and his team aligned themselves to the NDC in order to benefit from the promises made and in his own words “We followed the party very often and so till now people see me as NDC.”

Paa George also decried certain practices of movie producers that according to him are part of the reasons why the movie industry is going down in recent times.

“Instead of calling on old people like me and my old colleagues, you see that they call those young boys like Liwin and they pour powder into their hair, make them up to look like old men. So what should we use our grey hair for,” he queried

“You will never see this in Nigerian movies. There, old men are used for old men roles. This practice and others are not making the industry grow,” he said.

Paa George admonished the young actors reigning in the movie industry today, saying they should be wise to prepare for the future before they get to old age.
