A non-profit organization MusicXChange has launched a pilot project to promote the use of music therapy at the HopeXChange Medical Center in Kumasi, Ghana. To raise funds, it has launched the crowdfunding campaign “MusicXChange Ghana: Music for Social Change” on Indiegogo.
The campaign will be online until January 31st 2016.
“Music is highly therapeutic” – says Federico Masetti, Director of MusicXChange. “In Ghana, it is an essential component of life. However, the clinical practice of music therapy has only a small presence in the country. With this project, we aim at encouraging its use and, at the same time, promoting the immense Ghanaian musical heritage to a worldwide audience.
MusicXChange, in collaboration with Dagara Music Center and Dagbe Cultural Institute & Arts Center, produced an album of traditional Ghanaian music. Donors will receive a copy of the album in appreciation of their contribution.
“We provide a platform for local musicians to showcase their talent, while affording them the opportunity to positively impact the healthcare conditions of Ghanaian people” – says Masetti.
The project will be implemented in collaboration with prominent local and international partners, such as Berklee College of Music, among others.
To support the project and get a copy of the album, it is possible to make a donation at https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/musicxchange-ghana-music-for-social-change.
