AKA's All Eyes On Me featuring Burna Boy, Da L.E.S and JR gets playlisted on BBC 1 Xtra and hits 9 weeks at #1 on iTunes SA Hip Hop Chart, breaking new grounds for a South African Hip Hop track.
After receiving a 2014 nomination by DJ Edu from BBC 1 Xtra as one of the Top 5 African artists to break it big time in the UK in 2015, AKA's All Eyes On Me featuring Burna Boy, Da L.E.S and JR has now officially been playlisted on BBC 1 Xtra. The nomination came after AKA's Congratulate, Run Jozi and All Eyes On Me had extensive air play on DJ Edu's show.
This is a second BBC 1 Xtra nomination for AKA as he was nominated in 2013 as a “Break Thru Artist” from Africa in the UK. Since AKA's 2013 nomination, he has performed with Big Sean, Emeli Sande in LA, Nigeria, Ghana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Congo, Tanzania, Kenya and Malawi just to name a few.
All Eyes On Me is AKA's 4th consecutive #1 single off his #1 iTunes SA album, LEVELS. When the hit song debuted it shot straight to #1 on iTunes SA Hip Hop Chart and is now enjoying its 9th week at the #1 spot. It has also been the #1 video on iTunes SA Hip Hop Chart, Channel O, MTV Base, Trace TV and Live Amp, during the November, December and January period.
The BBC 1 Xtra playlisting announcement comes whilst AKA is currently away in Nigeria on a promo tour where he is hitting 6 prominent radio stations and 4 national TV channels, as well as performing at one of Nigeria's weekly premium events, Industry Nites.
Africa's Prince of Hip Hop has won the Channel O Africa Music Award for Best Hip Hop artist, 3 times in the past 4 years. At the 2014 South African Hip Hop Awards, AKA was the most nominated artist with 11 nominations and took home 6 awards on the night including the Most Valuable Artist award which he has won 3 consecutive times over the past 3 years since the awards inception.
AKA currently has 6 nominations for a music award event taking place this month, hosted by the biggest urban radio station in South Africa, Metro FM. His nominations include Best Collaboration for both Run Jozi and All Eyes On Me featuring Nigeria's Burna Boy, Da L.E.S and JR.
As it's only the beginning of the year, if AKA's successes thus far are anything to go by, then 2015 is sure to be a ground breaking year for him across the continent and globally. AKA is currently recording with Don Jazzy, Tiwa Savage, Wande Coal, KO and has new joints with Burna Boy all scheduled for this year.
