A former president of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Alhaji Sidiku Buari yesterday the entire executive of the union led by its president, Bice Osei Kufuor to create employment for old musicians in Ghana to enable them make ends meet.
The former MUSIGA president, who was happy about establishment of the Ageing Musicians Welfare Fund which was launched recently, advised the current president of the union to invest the money into a profitable venture to generate more revenue for the aged musicians.
According to him, most of the aged musicians who are not in active music business are currently living in deplorable conditions which are very seriously and affecting their productivity.
He advised that those MUSIGA tasked to manage the welfare fund known as Ageing Musicians Welfare Fund should work extra hard to improve the living standards of members of the union and the aged musicians in general.
He again advised both young and old musicians to take savings as a priority during their younger and active years, and also to ensure they contribute to pension and insurance schemes to ensure smooth life in their later ages.
During Sidiku Buari's era, MUSIGA had a welfare fund that assisted a large number of musicians financially and created some kind of employment for them.
He stressed that the leadership of the union equipped the regional offices with musical equipment to enable members of the union to organise their own musical events to raise money for themselves and the union.
He said that the national executives of the union should work tirelessly to improve the living standards of members and ensure good industry practices and directly influence policies of the industry that would positively affect the national economy.
