Ten individuals and groups have been recognized for their outstanding contribution to the development of gospel music in Ghana. At last night’s Ghana Gospel Music Awards ceremony, singer Cindy Thompson topped in three award categories spanning the year 2000 to 2002. Cindy Thompson won an award for Best Praise Song, Best Gospel Album and Best Gospel Song. Suzzy and Mat won accolades for the Best Worship Song, Alabaster Box currently on tour of the UK won an award for being the Best Gospel Accapella group and Daughters of Glorious Jesus were recognized as the Best Small Ministering group. Soul Winners won the award for being the Best Medium Mass Group with the Best Music Video. The Winneba Youth Choir was adjudged the Best Choral Group whilst Joyful Way Incorporated won three awards for being the Best Mass Ministering Group, the Discovery of 2000 to 2002 with the Best Sleeve Design for the period under review.
Afiba Addae-Mensah was adjudged the Best Female Voice and Kofi Dua Anto the Best Male Voice.
Guitarist Kojo Folson was also recognized as the Best Gospel Instrumentalist. The annual Gospel awards ceremony is the first-ever in the country and passed with few hitches.
The auditorium of the National Theatre was packed to capacity with an expectant audience who had a treat cheering on their favorite gospel artiste’s and singing and dancing at interludes. Excited members of the audience acknowledged the successful organization of the event in interviews with JOY News.
