Actors Boycott Sets To Bury Bob J

Some of the crème de la crème of Ghana's movie industry on Saturday abandoned their movie sets to pay their last respect to Ghana's legendary cinematographer, Bob J, otherwise called Kwame Robert Johnson.

Bob, a former student of NAFTI, died on the spot in a fatal motor accident at Aburi while he was allegedly training some soldiers how to ride a motorbike. Bob J was believed to be a professional biker with many years of experience from the United States.

His remains were laid to rest at the Osu Cemetery on Saturday afternoon after his funeral service at Holy Trinity Cathedral in the morning.

'May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be ever at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face and rain fall softly on your fields.

And until we meet again, may God hold you in the hollow of his hand. We love you, we'll never forget you,' were the solemn words from a tribute by Bob's family, which was printed on a card distributed to all who attended the funeral.

Information available to NEWS-ONE indicated that some movie production houses stopped production purposely for Bob's funeral. With those who did not, actors on those sets deserted the productions to attend the ceremony.

Present at the funeral were Majid Michel, John Dumelo, Jackie Appiah, Kalsum Sinare, Fred Nuamah, Roger Quartey, directors Frank Raja and Leila Djansi.

CEO of Venus Films, Abdul Salam Mumuni, Solomon Sampa and John Passa, among others, were there. The funeral ceremony was also characterized by motorbike displays by Bob's rider friends, to bid the cinematographer farewell.

Bob J is recognized as Ghana's best cinematographer and had worked on most of Ghana's top rated movies. He however maintained a low profile and quiet lifestyle devoid of media attention till he passed on.

He worked as lighting specialist for 'Scorned' and 'Perfect Picture', and was also the director of photography for 'A Sting In A Tale', 'Check Mate' and '6 Hours To Christmas.'

He was also the director of photography for KSM's 'Double', Kwaw Ansah's 'The Good Old Days' and Abdul Sallam's recently released '4Play Reloaded', among several others.

Bob J's expertise stretched to several TV commercials and documentaries as well.

He won the first ever Ghana movie awards best Cinematography award for the movie 'A Sting In A Tale.'
