The sorts of work we do
• We work together with the staff of nurseries, schools and other organizations, to develop and improve the life chances of children and young people.

• We work directly with children and young people. This work usually focuses on observation and assessment to provide information and advice that will help those who have responsibility for the child's care and education.

• We involved in discussions (consultation) about individual children without necessarily meeting them. The aim is to provide advice to those who have day to day responsibility

for meeting the child's educational needs because these adults are in the best position

The vast majority of children and adults, school has been a place of psychological and often physical torture, School for them was destructive and humiliating, nasty, degrading experience, sometimes of raw brutality, of which modern society should be deeply ashamed of.

In Ghana, there are very few possibilities for screening and testing on SpLD. The Ghana Education Service (GES) does not have the facilities to screen, and provides little targeted support to children with learning difficulties. As a result, there is not much information on children with Specific Learning Disabilities in Ghana. Statistics from other countries however suggest that up to 10% of children in any population have a specific learning disability.

Majority of children on the streets have been to school but have dropped out at an early stage. The learning levels of many of these children are far below the level they should have attained in school. The pattern is that they mostly drop out from Primary level (majority from Primary class 3). These children are mostly called slow learners

The Children Act (560) 1998, the Disability Act (715) 2006, Education Act (778) 2008, Juvenile Justice Act (653) 2003 and UN Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) are relevant laws in Ghana that protect the rights of children including those with learning difficulties
