Former Minister of State in charge of Finance and Chairperson of Parliament's Public Accounts Committee, Abena Osei-Asare, is calling on President John Dramani Mahama to initiate a thorough investigation into the reported losses incurred by the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod).
The Atewa East MP claims that GH¢6 billion of the reported US$1.7 billion loss attributed to GoldBod by the IMF could have been used to recruit unemployed nurses.
Speaking to journalists, Abena Osei-Asare also urged President Mahama to honour his promise to merge or collapse non-performing state-owned enterprises, arguing that public institutions must be held accountable for their financial performance.
Her comments have renewed scrutiny of GoldBod's operations, financial management and the use of public resources.
