Ghana's High Commissioner to South Africa, Benjamin Anani Quashie, has denied claims that Ghanaian authorities abandoned a man at Johannesburg's O. R. Tambo International Airport during a planned evacuation exercise.

The response follows a viral video of a Ghanaian man, identified as Sylvester Boakye, who was seen at the airport expecting an evacuation flight.

Officials say he was never directed to the airport and that evacuation arrangements are still being finalised.

The High Commissioner further stated that the misinformation appears to have originated from an unofficial community WhatsApp group and not from the High Commission.
