Takoradi, April 3 GNA - Mr Joseph Boahen Aidoo, the Western Regional Minister on Monday said four sites in Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis have been earmarked as training grounds for the CAN 2008 soccer competition. The Minister said at the maiden 'Meet the Press' series in Takoradi, the first to be held outside Accra.
Mr Aidoo said the sites are the Gyandu Park, the Volta River Authority (VRA) Training Grounds, Hasaacas Park and Railways Training School. He said the main outstanding issue now in connection with CAN 2008 is a programme to be drawn to support Hoteliers in the Metropolis to upgrade their facilities.
The Minister said the government was committed to ensuring a unique hosting programme and this would require conscious government effort with corporate support.
Mr Aidoo said construction of the Sekondi Sports Stadium complex has started in full swing and hoped the project would be completed on schedule.
