Farewell soccer gala for late Ofei Ansah

Accra, July 23, GNA - Six old football stars keep fit clubs in Accra would engage in a pre-burial gala competition at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium on Saturday, July 30 to give a fitting farewell to the late Ofei Ansah former national star and coach of Accra Hearts of Oak who would be laid to rest on the same day.

In a statement signed by Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, for the Liberty Oldies Football Club, organisers of the competition said the competition is strictly in memory of the late Ofei Ansah, who could be easily described as one of the most dedicated sons of Accra Hearts of Oak. The statement said balloting for the gala would be at 0630 hrs. with kick off scheduled for 0700 hrs. It further continued that immediately after the gala, the players would remain in their jerseys to accompany the body to the cemetery for burial.

In view of this upcoming gala competition, Maapa Inkoom, organiser of the senior foreign-based professionals has asked the following foreign based players, namely Anthony Yeboah, Arthur Moses, Sarfo Gyamfi, Ablade Kumah, Ezekiel Alamu, Foster Batsios and others to report to the Sahara Railways Park for training on Thursday July 28.

Meanwhile, all members of Accra Hearts of Oak Old Players Association (AHOOPA), including the under-listed players-- Anas Seidu, Hesse Odamtten, Emmanuel Armah, Sampson Lamptey, Silas Tetteh, Saban Quaye, Christian Aguadze, Christian Ansoade, Collins Paha, Nii Noi Thompson, Sam Suppey, Douglas Tagoe Opoku Afriyie and others should contact Mohammed Polo to finalise arrangement for the gala.

The six clubs expected to take part in the competition are Mamprobi Accra Old Stars, Dansoman Liberty Oldies, Accra Scrape Rangers, Trustees Keep-fit Club SSNIT, AHOOPA and Senior Foreign Based Stars.
