
Former Black Stars captain John Mensah has retired from football according to several reports in the local media.
The experienced defender retires at age 34 having paid his dues to the National team.
Mensah nicknamed “The Rock” played for the U-20 [Black Satellites] at the 2001 FIFA U-20 World Cup where he helped the team to the finals.
He also played at two successive FIFA World Cups with the Black Stars, thus in Germany 2006 and South Africa 2010.
He also played for Chievo Verona, Rennes, Lyon and Sunderland. He recently ended his contract with Swedish Club AFC United.
One of the longest serving Black Stars players, the former Modena center-back scored 3 goals in 86 appearances for the National team.
In addition, he played at 2006, 2008 and 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
