John Mensah
Former Ghana captain John Mensah insists he is very fit to return to mainstream club football and the national team as well.
The centre-back, 32, in his bid to get a place in Ghana's team for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, joined Slovakian side FC Nitra in a short deal but his fitness failed him and got overlooked by then coach Kwesi Appiah.
Mensah, the former Rennes and Sunderland man, has for a year now been without a club, but says he has not retired as he reveals his comeback plans.
'I’m very fit and will return to club football soon and probably the Black Stars as well.
'I have not retired yet. Time will tell when I might finally retire. I am in talks with some clubs and we hope the best comes out of it,' Mensah said.
He however debunked claims of being in talks with former club and current Ghana league leaders AshantiGold for a short spell.
'It is only a rumour. I have not contacted any of the management members that I want to play for AshGold.'
John Mensah has been a stalwart defender for the Black Stars over the years but his career has been mired by recurring injuries.
