But AllSports.com.gh can exclusively report that Santana vacated the title over the weekend after several attempts by the IBF to get her to sign the contract for the defence of the title as sanctioned. Lindsey Tucker, IBF/USBA Chairman of the Championship Committee confirmed this unexpected move in a letter addressed to Helen's Golden Mike promoters and managers and copied to the IBF/USBA President /CEO, Daryl Peoples, Chairman of IBF/USBA Ratings Committee, Anibal Miramontes and the President of IBF Africa, Middle East & Persian Gulf, Onesmo Ngowi.
“As you know, the IBF has been trying for a couple of weeks to get Dahianna Santana to sign the contract. I have sent e-mails and Jeanette Salazar has sent e-mails and made several calls to Manager Carlos Zapata and Dahianna Santana herself. I finally found out today that Carlos vacated the IBF Female Featherweight Title on Saturday, February 22, 2014. I'm sorry for all of the trouble this has caused you,” Mr. Tucker explained in his letter dated February 24, 2014.
He continued: “Now that the title is vacant and Helen Joseph is the leading available contender, I will approve Helen to fight for the vacant Female Featherweight Title. I will approve any female Featherweight in the top 10 who is not coming off a knockout loss for the vacant title.”
