Flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has held discussions with the leadership of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) on measures to address the cost of living, improve wages and expand employment opportunities for young people in Ghana.
The meeting, held at the TUC Hall as part of his ongoing stakeholder consultations, also focused on pension improvements, disability inclusion and the need to strengthen the country’s economic resilience against external shocks.

In a Facebook post after the meeting, Bawumia said the engagement provided an opportunity to discuss issues affecting Ghanaian workers and explore ways to improve their welfare.
He indicated that the discussions covered several key areas, including the delivery of a living wage, job creation for the youth and the development of a social contract between government and organised labour.
Youth employment was another key issue discussed at the meeting, with Bawumia highlighting the need to expand job opportunities for young people.
“My stakeholder consultations brought me to the TUC Hall today for an insightful meeting with the leadership of the Trades Union Congress (TUC). We discussed issues that matter most to the Ghanaian worker, from the cost of living and delivering a living wage, to expanding youth jobs, enhancing pensions, and ensuring disability inclusion.

“We also explored a vital social contract between government and labour to build economic resilience against external shocks. We agreed to follow up on specifics in subsequent meetings. I am deeply grateful to the TUC leadership and constituent groups for an open dialogue that allows us to tap into their wealth of experience as we build a better future together,” he stated.
The engagement also considered pensions, an issue central to the long-term financial security of workers after retirement.

You go down to Damascus, down to Syria, and come down to Soweto in South Africa to meet TUC members. Bawumia, Ghanaians are not as stupid as you think to vote for you and let you come and ruin the country, as you did for eight years. Every time Ghana is moving forward, the NPP will come out with their lies to destroy it. Not this time; Ghanaians are now wiser than you think and will never allow a leader who couldn't build the toilets he promised the people as president. I feel sorry for the...
