VETERAN RADIO broadcaster Joachim Awuley Lartey aka Joe Lartey/ Over To You, is to be honoured with an Awards ceremony named after him.
The Awards, which will be known as the 'Over to you Radio and TV Sports Broadcast Excellence, has been fixed for next month, August, and it will reward the good works of sports broadcasters across the country.
The non-existence of an Award scheme that recognizes the works of broadcasters for over five decades, stirred the organizers to put the program together.
The scheme also seeks to promote excellence and quality sports commentary and presentation in the country.
Announcing the Awards ceremony to the press a few days ago in Accra, Obeng Busia, a former diplomat, author and ex-member of the GFA, who is also one of the brains behind the Awards, said, 'It is about time Ghanaians learnt to recognize their heroes.
Therefore naming the awards after the first president of SWAG is also a way of acknowledging the hard work and contribution of the octogenarian to the development of sports broadcast in the nation.'
He also proposed that the birthday of Joe Lartey Snr should be observed as Broadcast Standards Day in the country every year saying, 'This will certainly raise the level of broadcasting in the country.' Joe Lartey Snr is a legend in broadcasting with his career spanning over 60 years. He was head of sports at GBC and the Federal Radio of Nigeria as well.
He has lectured in several institutions in public speaking both national and international.
He turned 86 on June 6, 2013.
