Abuja, Nigeria, Oct 15 - GNA - Two Ghanaian women on Wednesday won silver medals at the on going Eighth All Africa Games holding in the Nigeria Federal capital of Abuja. Vida Anim picked a silver medal in the 200 metres women's event, while Akosua Serwaah mined silver in the 800 metres race. Vida posted a time of 23.17 seconds to place second to Chief Mary Onyali-Omagbemi, who returned 23.09 seconds, while South African Estie Wittstock ran it at 23.46 seconds to pick the bronze. In the 800 metres, Grace Ebor beat Akosua to the gold when she returned a time of 2 minutes 02.04 seconds to place first, as against Akosuah's silver winning time of 2 minutes 02.40 seconds and Tanzanian Lwiza Msyani's time of 2 minutes 02.85 seconds, which gave her the bronze. Aziz Zakari put up a great effort but could only manage a bronze medal in the men's 200 metres, whose gold went to Nigerian Uchenna Emedolu, who condemned Frankie Fredericks of Namibia to the second place. The 36 years old Namibian returned a time of 20.43 seconds as against 20.42 seconds recorded by Emedolu, while Zakari was timed at 20.51 seconds. Ghana now occupies the eighth position on the medals table with a total of four gold medals, four silver and nine bronzes from the pool of 53 countries taking part in the Games. Nigeria now leads with 58 gold medals followed by South Africa with 57 while Egypt is in the third position with 50. Tunisia, Algeria, Senegal and Ethiopia follow in that order.
