Accra, Dec. 20, GNA - Premier League champions, Aduana Stars have been handed a tough test in the CAF Champions League after they were drawn against Moroccan champions, Wydad Casablanca at the preliminary round.
According to the draw conducted by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Monday in Cairo, Egypt, culled by GNA Sports, Aduana Stars will trek to Casablanca on the weekend of 28-30 January, 2011 for the first leg before hosting the 12-time Moroccan champions on the weekend of 11-13 February, 2011.
Aduana Stars who will be making their first appearance at the continental stage will face a seemingly 'soft' opponent at the round of 32 where they are billed to face the winner of the Mighty Barolle (Liberia) and Kano Pillars' (Nigeria) clash.
The clash will be the first time Wydad Casablanca will be facing a Ghanaian opponent after the famous victory over Kumasi Asante Kotoko in the finals of the defunct CAF Cup Winners' Cup in 2002.
Aduana Stars will also be seeking to become the first Ghanaian club to reach the mini-league stage of the premier continental Club championship since Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak participation in 2006.
Holders TP Mazembe of DR Congo and eight others made up of, Entente Setif (Algeria), Al-Ahly (Egypt), Al Ittihad (Libya), Stade Malien (Mali), Al Hilal and Merrikh (Sudan), Esperance (Tunisia) and Dynamos (Zimbabwe) have drawn a bye at the prelims.
