Ghanaian student in shock Sweidsh move

Ghanaian computer science student Reuben Ayarna has quit his university education in the United States to sign a lucrative contract with Swedish top flight club GAIS Gothenburg, Kickoffghana reports.

The 22-year-old signed a four-year deal with Sweden's top-level Allsvenskan side to halt his education at Boston College.

Ayarna, who helped Boston College win the 2007 ACC title, was spotted by scouts of GAIS while playing in college soccer in America.

"I feel so happy about the move because I have spent my whole life dreaming of playing in Europe," Ayarna told KickOffGhana.com.

"When I was contacted about the offer I though it was a perfect opportunity to begin my dream of starting a career in Europe.

"There were also top clubs in the American top soccer league interested in me, but I thought Europe offers much more than the MLS."

Ayarna says his move to the Swedish league can help further his ambition of playing for Ghana and also play in the top league of Europe.

"I am keen on playing for the Ghana national team and the Swedish league offers me more opportunities to seen by the Ghana authorities," he said.

"I also want to play in England or any of the top leagues in Europe like Spain, Italy, France, Germany and I think this move will help me continue to grow and achieve that aim."

Despite leaving his education behind, Ayarna is keen on returning to his books after settling down in Sweden.

He said: "At this moment I need to concentrate and get a first team place at the club.

"Once I have settled down I will explore other opportunities of continuing my education here in Sweden so that I can get my degrees for the future too as well."

Ayarna attended one of the top learning institutions in Ghana, the Presbyterian Boys' Secondary School (Presec-Legon), where he attained top marks before leaving for America for university education.

He played U-12 football Desisderoes Babies in Accra before he was spotted to play for the junior team of Liberty Professionals.
