National Paralympic Committee President Samson Deen says $250,000 of the $500,000 pledged by Gold Fields Limited to Ghana's national amputee football team will be invested in the development of the sport.

Gold Fields has committed $500,000 to support the Black Challenge as part of a broader $5 million, two-year sponsorship agreement with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) covering several national teams.

The funding has been activated to boost the team's preparations and motivate the players ahead of the 2026 Amputee Football World Cup in Mexico.

Addressing the team, Deen disclosed that half of the donation would be channelled into developing amputee football in the country.

“$250,000 out of the $500,000 from Gold Fields is for the development of amputee football,” he said.

He further stressed that winning the global tournament would be a major milestone for Ghana and help raise the profile of the sport.

“The best we can do is to win the Amputee World Cup. Winning the cup will mean a lot to us,” he added.

The 2026 Amputee Football World Cup is scheduled to begin on November 13, with Ghana making their return to the competition after an eight-year absence.

The Black Challenge have been drawn in Group D alongside Angola, Colombia and Iraq.

Ghana head into the tournament as back-to-back African Amputee Cup of Nations champions, having won the continental title in 2021 and 2024.

The team will be hoping to build on their previous best performance of finishing sixth globally at the competition in Argentina as they target a historic run in Mexico.
