Former Ghana captain André Ayew has donated money to the national amputee football team, the Black Challenge, and urged them to aim for gold at the 2026 Amputee Football World Cup in Mexico.

Ayew visited the team during a training session to offer his support as they prepare for the tournament, which will take place from 13 to 22 November.

The amount of his financial contribution has not been disclosed.

“I’m here to support and give you all the love and power that I can give you, and to wish you great luck. I hope that you guys will bring us a medal, but the gold will be better,” Ayew told the players.

The former Black Stars captain’s visit provided encouragement for the team as they prepare to represent Ghana on the international stage.

Ghana have been drawn in Group D alongside Angola, Colombia and Iraq for the tournament in San Juan de los Lagos, Mexico.

A total of 24 national teams will compete for the title, with the Black Challenge hoping to make a strong impression against some of the world’s leading amputee football nations.

Ayew’s gesture also highlights the importance of supporting athletes with disabilities and recognising their contribution to Ghanaian sport.

With preparations intensifying, the team will be looking to translate the encouragement into strong performances as they pursue success at the World Cup.
