Interim Asante Kotoko coach Hamza Obeng has challenged his forwards to become more clinical in front of goal as the Porcupine Warriors seek to improve their attacking output in the Ghana Premier League.
Kotoko's attacking trio of Isaac Opoku, Emmanuel Mamah and Solomon Nsoh have scored a combined five goals after seven matches in the 2026/27 campaign, prompting Obeng to demand greater efficiency in the final third.
Speaking after Kotoko's 1-1 draw against AshantiGold 04 at the Len Clay Stadium on Sunday, the coach acknowledged improvements in the team's attacking play but insisted that his forwards must do more to meet expectations.
Obeng stressed that scoring goals remains the primary responsibility of the attackers and urged them to make better use of the opportunities created by their teammates.
“Much better, but they need to improve more because that’s their hallmark. The only thing we need from them is for them to put the ball in the back of the net,” he said.
The interim coach also highlighted the contribution of Kotoko's midfielders, noting that they had been creating chances in dangerous areas but needed the forwards to be more composed when opportunities arose.
He called on the attackers to exercise patience and maintain their composure in the attacking third instead of wasting promising openings.
“The midfielders are able to create the chances in the final third, and the only thing we need from them is to exercise patience, have composure in the attacking third and put the ball at the net,” he added.
Kotoko currently sit eighth in the league table and will be eager to return to winning ways when they host Medeama SC at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.
The Matchday Nine fixture is scheduled to kick off at 15:00 GMT, with Obeng's side facing a difficult test against a Medeama team that will be looking to maintain its strong start to the season.
