FC AshantiGold 04 head coach Karim Zito says he is satisfied with his side’s 1-1 draw against Asante Kotoko, despite believing they had enough chances to win the Ashanti Derby.
AshantiGold hosted Kotoko at the Len Clay Stadium on Sunday in a Matchday 8 fixture in the Ghana Premier League.
Samuel Boateng Fosu gave the hosts the lead in the 40th minute, but Patrick Aseidu’s powerful free-kick restored parity for the Porcupine Warriors to earn them a point.
Speaking after the match, Zito praised Kotoko’s goalkeeper for making crucial saves to deny his side, while acknowledging that both teams had opportunities to secure victory.
“We had a lot of opportunities, but their goalkeeper was at his best,” Zito said.
“In the first half we took it, and in the second half we shared it. We created opportunities, and they also had their opportunities.”
The former Ghana youth coach said the final score was a fair reflection of the contest, given the chances created by both sides.
“At the end of the day, the 1-1 signifies what happened,” he added.
Despite his team’s inability to convert their chances into a winning goal, Zito expressed satisfaction with the result, particularly against one of Ghana’s most established clubs.
“At the end of the day, I’m very happy we didn’t lose,” he said.
The draw leaves AshantiGold 04 11th in the league standings with 11 points, while Kotoko occupy eighth place with 12 points.
AshantiGold will look to return to winning ways when they travel to face Swedru All Blacks in their next league fixture.
Kotoko, meanwhile, will host Medeama SC at the Baba Yara Stadium as both sides prepare for their Matchday 9 encounters.
