Tour du Ghana 2026: Organisers step up preparations for 11th edition

Preparations for the 11th edition of the Tour du Ghana have reached an advanced stage, with the cycling event scheduled to take place from 12 to 23 November 2026.

Ghana Cycling Association Secretary General Shabaan Mohammed says cyclists, media personnel, race officials, medical teams and other stakeholders are ready for the 11-stage competition.

The race will cover 2,401.7km, including 1,406.4km of competitive racing and 995.3km of transfer stages.

Mohammed commended the National Planning Committee, chaired by Kobby Woyome, for its efforts to ensure a successful event.

He also expressed appreciation to Ghana Olympic Committee president Richard Akpokavie and Nana Adu Mankattah of the Mass Sports Federation for their contributions to the administrative, operational and management arrangements.

The 2026 edition is expected to feature 15 teams and about 90 cyclists, bringing together local clubs and international competitors from Europe, the United States and the United Kingdom.

The route will pass through eight regions: Greater Accra, Eastern, Ashanti, Bono, Bono East, Savannah, Northern and Volta.

Key locations along the route include Accra, Tamale, Kintampo, Sunyani, Kumasi, Nkawkaw, Koforidua, Ho, Aflao, Keta and Akwamufie.

The event is being organised by the Ghana Cycling Federation in collaboration with the Ghana Olympic Committee, with support from the national planning team and other stakeholders.

Organisers say the race will combine elite competition with opportunities to promote Ghana's landscapes, tourism and sporting culture, beginning in Accra and extending to the northern parts of the country before returning to the coast.

The programme will feature a prologue in Accra and conclude with a criterium, with the route designed to showcase the country's diverse scenery and communities.

Preparatory rides, including the Duku Ride, PruRide, Osagyefo Ride and 3FM Tour du Ghana, are also taking place earlier in the season to help cyclists build their form ahead of the main event.

Media partners for the 2026 Tour du Ghana include Omashi Media, Sporty FM, the Multimedia Group and GTV.

The event is listed on the Ghana Cycling Federation's official calendar, while coordination continues on international calendar arrangements and safety requirements.
