Black Queens have dropped five places in the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings, falling from 60th to 65th in the global standings.
The rankings, released on Tuesday, 20 October, also see Ghana lose ground in Africa, dropping from third to fifth on the continent.
South Africa and Morocco have moved ahead of the Black Queens, while Nigeria remain Africa’s highest-ranked women’s national team.
Ghana’s latest decline follows their disappointing campaign at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), held in Morocco in July and August.
The Black Queens were eliminated in the quarter-finals after losing to Malawi, missing out on a place in the last four and an opportunity to secure an automatic qualification spot for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The team subsequently turned their attention to the qualification campaign for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, recording victories over Mauritius to advance to the next round.
Despite their progress in the Olympic qualifiers, the latest FIFA rankings represent a setback for Ghana, who had climbed to 60th in the previous edition.
The Black Queens are expected to return to action next month when they compete in the preliminary phase of the play-off tournament for the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
Ghana will be hoping to improve their standing and strengthen their position as they pursue qualification for the global showpiece.
