Former Ghana international Anthony Baffoe says he has no immediate plans to contest the Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidency but has left the door open to a possible future bid.
Baffoe, who previously served as Deputy General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), said the position was not among his current ambitions despite repeated suggestions that he should consider the role.
Speaking to 3Sports, the founder and General Secretary of the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG) explained that he had turned down the idea on several occasions.
“I’ve said no on multiple occasions. It doesn’t drive me, but I don’t know what is going to happen in six months or 12 months or 24 months. For now I don’t see myself there, but you never know what tomorrow,” Baffoe said.
The 61-year-old, who was born in Germany, represented the Black Stars between 1991 and 1994 and has since built a career in football administration.
His comments come as attention turns to the next GFA presidential election, scheduled for October 2027, when the association will elect its leadership for the next term.
Incumbent president Kurt Okraku is approaching the end of his second term and has faced calls to step aside following Ghana’s disappointing start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The Black Stars have lost their opening two Group C matches, falling 2-0 to Côte d’Ivoire before suffering a 4-2 defeat to The Gambia after surrendering a two-goal lead.
Ghana sit bottom of the group without a point and will look to revive their qualification hopes when they face Somalia in a double-header in November at the Accra Sports Stadium.
