Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) vice-president George Afriyie has urged the Black Stars to assemble their strongest squad for the remaining matches of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Ghana have endured a difficult start to their qualifying campaign, suffering consecutive defeats that have left them bottom of Group C without a point after two matches.
The Black Stars lost 2-0 to Ivory Coast in Bouaké before suffering a 4-2 defeat at home to The Gambia, despite taking a two-goal lead at the Accra Sports Stadium.
However, Afriyie believes Ghana's hopes of qualifying for the tournament remain alive, insisting that selecting the country's best available players will be crucial to their chances of recovery.
“Black Stars’ chances of qualifying for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) are not over,” he told Sporty FM.
“We should assemble the best squad for the rest of the games.
“It's a league format, so if we can win the rest of the games, hopefully we will qualify,” he added.
Ghana will return to action next month with a double-header against Somalia at the Accra Sports Stadium as they seek to revive their campaign in the Matchday Three and Four fixtures.
The Black Stars will then host Ivory Coast before travelling to face The Gambia in their final group match.
Ghana are aiming to return to the continental showpiece after failing to qualify for the 2025 edition in Morocco.
The 2027 AFCON will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
