Former Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) chairman Kudjoe Fianoo has called for Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kurt Okraku and his entire Executive Council to resign, saying sweeping changes are needed to reverse the decline of Ghana football.

Fianoo believes the current leadership has had sufficient time to improve the game but has failed to deliver the expected progress, arguing that the need for reform should take priority over concerns about possible FIFA sanctions.

Speaking to Graphic Sports, the veteran football administrator cited Ghana's 4-2 home defeat by The Gambia in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers as evidence of the challenges facing the country's football.

He stressed, however, that the problems extend beyond the Black Stars, pointing to concerns about infrastructure, youth development and the performances of other national teams.

Fianoo also criticised what he described as an administrative culture in which personal interests take precedence over the broader development of the sport.

Okraku, who took office in October 2019, has faced renewed criticism following Ghana's disappointing start to the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign.

The former AshantiGold chief executive officer argued that the GFA president had been given enough time to demonstrate progress and should take responsibility for the current state of the game.

“You can give him an excuse in your first four years, or even in your first two years. But if it is not progressing, it is rather regressing,” Fianoo said.

He insisted that accountability should extend to the entire Executive Council rather than rest solely on the GFA president.

“He headed a body that failed to perform. So they should all leave,” he added.

Ghana's struggles in the AFCON qualifiers have also led to the departure of head coach Carlos Queiroz, with the GFA expected to appoint a new substantive coach ahead of the next phase of the national team's preparations.

The Black Stars are scheduled to face Somalia in a doubleheader in November, with both matches set to be played at the Accra Sports Stadium as Ghana seek to revive their qualifying campaign.
