Ghana’s Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, says he is concerned about the Black Stars’ performances following their disappointing start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Ghana have lost their opening two matches in Group C, suffering a 2-0 defeat by Ivory Coast in Bouaké before falling 4-2 to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The results have left the four-time African champions bottom of the group without a point, increasing the pressure on the team to revive their qualification campaign.
The disappointing start also preceded Carlos Queiroz’s departure as head coach, leaving Ghana facing the task of rebuilding their technical setup ahead of their next qualifiers.
Speaking on TV3, Mr Adams expressed his dissatisfaction with the team’s recent performances, arguing that Ghana’s football challenges go beyond results on the pitch.
“We are worried about the performance of the Black Stars. The issue with our football is structural, involving both leadership and talent,” the Buem MP said.
The Black Stars are scheduled to return to action next month when they face Somalia in consecutive Group C fixtures on Matchdays Three and Four at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced that an interim technical team will oversee the two matches while preparations continue to appoint a substantive head coach ahead of the final group fixtures next year.
Ghana are seeking to return to the AFCON finals in East Africa after missing out on the 2025 tournament in Morocco.
With their qualification hopes already under pressure, the Black Stars will need a significant improvement in performance and results to keep their campaign on track.
