Former Western Region Football Association chairman Kojo Yankah has criticised Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kurt Okraku, accusing him of being a major obstacle to the development of football in the country.

Yankah's comments come after the Black Stars made a poor start to their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

Ghana opened their Group C campaign with a 2-0 defeat by Ivory Coast before suffering another loss to The Gambia.

The Black Stars appeared to be in control after taking a 2-0 lead at the Accra Sports Stadium, but conceded four goals to lose 4-2 and remain without a point from their opening two matches.

Speaking on Asempa FM's Sports Nite Show, Yankah said the state of Ghanaian football had deteriorated under Okraku's leadership.

"Ghana football has fallen into a pit, and the major problem is coming from Kurt Okraku," he said.

He also questioned the decision to include Baba Rahman in Ghana's squad for the 2026 World Cup.

"How on earth should Baba Rahman go to the World Cup if not for personal interest?" Yankah said.

"It is very disgraceful, considering the state of our football under Kurt Okraku," he added.

The Black Stars' poor start has increased pressure on the GFA and raised fresh concerns about Ghana's chances of qualifying for the 2027 AFCON.

Ghana missed the 2025 tournament in Morocco after finishing bottom of their qualifying group, ending a run of more than two decades of consecutive appearances at the finals.

The Black Stars will attempt to revive their campaign when they face Somalia in a double-header in October, with both matches scheduled to be played at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The disappointing start to the qualifiers also contributed to the departure of Carlos Queiroz, who resigned as head coach of the national team.

The GFA and the Sports Ministry have since formed a five-member technical search committee to identify and recommend candidates for the vacant position.

The committee is expected to submit its report on Friday, 9 October.
