Kurt Okraku has added no value to Ghana football, says Old Tafo MP Vincent Ekow Assafuah

Ranking Member of Parliament’s Select Committee on Sports Vincent Ekow Assafuah has criticised the Ghana Football Association (GFA), claiming its existence has not added value to Ghana football.

Mr Assafuah was speaking to Akoma FM after the Black Stars suffered a 4-2 defeat by The Gambia in their second Group C match of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers at the Accra Sports Stadium.

“I would say it is a shame because their existence has not added anything to Ghana football. Their existence is making Ghana football shameful,” he said.

The New Patriotic Party MP also suggested that officials responsible for the administration of Ghana football should consider resigning if they believe they have failed in their responsibilities.

“In proper jurisdictions, people who understand what shame is and appreciate the responsibility that comes with public office would resign,” he said.

“It does not have to come from the Ranking Member for Youth and Sports. If they understand what shame is and understand what public responsibility means, then they should do what is expected of them.”

Mr Assafuah said Parliament's Sports Committee would continue to demand answers from football authorities if they did not take action themselves.

“But if they do not, we will continue to ask the questions that need to be asked of them,” he added.

Ghana's defeat by The Gambia followed a 2-0 loss to Côte d'Ivoire in their opening Group C fixture in Bouaké last Thursday.

The back-to-back defeats leave the four-time African champions without a point from their first two matches and facing an uphill task to revive their qualification hopes.

Ghana will return to action in October with a double-header against Somalia at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Black Stars are attempting to return to the Africa Cup of Nations after missing the 2025 tournament in Morocco.
