Baffour Awuah wanted over alleged financial loss, dissipation of public funds and money laundering at SIC Life Savings & Loans— Srem-Sai

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has obtained a High Court warrant for the arrest of Manhyia South Member of Parliament, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, in connection with an investigation into alleged unauthorised financial transactions at SIC Life Savings & Loans Company Limited.

Deputy Attorney-General, Dr Justice Srem-Sai, confirmed the issuance of the warrant, explaining that the investigation covers alleged offences including causing financial loss, dissipation of public funds and money laundering.

According to him, the court granted the warrant after the MP allegedly failed to respond to invitations from EOCO dating back to February 2026.

The High Court has also given EOCO the green light to search for and seize documents deemed relevant to the investigation.

In its application, EOCO told the court that all efforts to get the MP to appear voluntarily had failed, making the arrest and search orders necessary for the investigation to move forward.

The development comes a week after EOCO officials attempted to arrest Mr Baffour Awuah at the Accra High Court on September 23, an incident that sparked a confrontation on the court premises.

Mr Baffour Awuah has, however, challenged EOCO's version of events. He contends that the February invitation was addressed to him in his former role as Senior Partner of Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners, the law firm that represented SIC Life Savings & Loans.

He maintains that a representative of the firm subsequently appeared before EOCO on March 4, March 18 and April 30, supplying the information investigators requested, including a formal statement.

EOCO, for its part, insists the investigation remains active and that it resorted to the arrest warrant only after its attempts to secure the MP's attendance proved unsuccessful.

Full details of the transactions under investigation have yet to be made public.
