Morocco cancel planned friendly against Ghana

Morocco have cancelled their planned international friendly against Ghana, dealing another setback to the Black Stars as they seek to recover from a difficult start to their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

The two sides were scheduled to meet on 4 October in Tangier, but the fixture has now been called off by the Moroccan Football Federation.

No official reason has been given for the cancellation.

The friendly was expected to provide Ghana with an opportunity to regroup following their opening AFCON qualifiers against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia.

The Black Stars suffered a 2-0 defeat by Côte d’Ivoire before surrendering a two-goal lead to lose 4-2 to The Gambia in Accra, leaving them without a point from their opening two Group C matches.

Ghana had also been scheduled to play Tanzania in a friendly, but that fixture was cancelled after the two football federations failed to reach a final agreement.

The cancellation of the Morocco game means Carlos Queiroz will have to find alternative opposition as he prepares his squad for the next round of AFCON qualifiers in November.

Ghana will return to competitive action in October when they face Somalia in a double-header at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Black Stars are aiming to revive their qualification campaign and secure a place at the 2027 tournament, which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

Ghana missed the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco after failing to qualify for the tournament for the first time in more than two decades.
