2027 AFCON Qualifiers: Black Stars must show character against The Gambia - Emmanuel Agemang Badu

Former Ghana midfielder Emmanuel Agemang Badu says the Black Stars must demonstrate strong character and mentality if they are to beat The Gambia in their second Group C fixture of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Ghana will host The Scorpions at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, September 29, hoping to recover from their 2-0 defeat by Ivory Coast in their opening qualifier last Thursday.

Agemang Badu believes the current Black Stars squad is lacking experience, particularly in key areas of the team.

“The team has changed and is crippled with inexperience. The team is also depleted. Take our midfield: our experienced midfielders are Kwasi Sibo and Caleb Yirenkyi,” he told Lawson TV.

The former Udinese and Asante Kotoko midfielder acknowledged the difficulty of the fixture but insisted Ghana must find a way to secure all three points.

“It will be difficult, but we need to win. We just need strong mentality and character,” he added.

Ghana currently sit at the bottom of Group C without a point after their defeat in Bouaké and will be desperate for victory against The Gambia to revive their qualification campaign.

The Black Stars missed the 2025 AFCON in Morocco and are looking to avoid another disappointing qualifying campaign.

Kick-off at the Accra Sports Stadium is scheduled for 16:00 GMT.
