Ghana’s Ellen Anim produced a commanding performance to win the Elite Women’s race at the Osagyefo Criterium 2026, earning the title of Queen of the Road after a thrilling contest in Accra.
Representing Gladiators Cycling Club, Anim showcased remarkable endurance and tactical awareness over the demanding 67-kilometre course at University Farm Road, Borteyman, on September 21. She crossed the finish line in 2:11:24, averaging an impressive 30.594 km/h to win on home soil.
The race developed into a captivating Ghana-Nigeria battle, with the Nigerian riders mounting a strong challenge throughout the six-lap event. However, Anim held her nerve in the closing stages to fend off her rivals and claim the top spot on the podium.
Nigeria’s Meelubari Coxson Treasure of Subsea Cycling Team finished second, just five seconds behind the winner in a time of 2:11:29, while compatriot Mary Sunday Samuel of Dynamic Cycling Club completed the podium places after clocking 2:11:33.
Fellow Ghanaian Abigail Tetteh of Gutten Cycling Team delivered a spirited performance to finish fourth in 2:11:46. Nigeria’s Patience Otuodung placed fifth in 2:12:19, while Ernest Happiness, also of Subsea Cycling Team, came home sixth in 2:23:14.14.
All six starters completed the challenging course, underlining the determination and resilience of the competitors.
Officially sponsored by EMOTO under the theme “Powering Progress”, the event once again lived up to its slogan of being “More Than a Race, A Legacy”.
With four Nigerian riders finishing among the top six, the competition highlighted the growing strength of women’s cycling in West Africa. Yet it was Anim who stole the spotlight, delivering a memorable victory for Ghana in front of home supporters.
The Osagyefo Criterium continues to serve as a platform for developing cycling talent across the region while promoting the sport’s growth for future generations.
