Violent rainstorm rips off roofs, displaces residents in Krachi Nchumuru

A heavy rainstorm at the weekend has damaged several houses and displaced residents in parts of the Krachi Nchumuru District of the Oti Region.

The affected communities include Grubi, Kokose, Kwame Akura and other surrounding farming communities.

Several houses reportedly had their roofs ripped off, while others sustained significant damage during the heavy downpour, forcing some affected households to seek temporary shelter with relatives and friends.

Some of the affected residents have appealed to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the Krachi Nchumuru District Assembly and benevolent organisations for urgent relief support.

They said the incident had disrupted their daily activities and placed additional financial burdens on families already struggling to meet their basic needs.

The residents are calling for relief items and other assistance to help them recover from the disaster and restore their livelihoods.

The District Director of NADMO in Krachi Nchumuru, Shadrach Njebi, and a rescue team have since visited the affected communities to assess the extent of the damage and support affected households.

The team visited Kwame Akura, Grubi, Kokose and neighbouring communities to assess the situation and monitor the safety of residents.

NADMO has reaffirmed its commitment to responding to emergencies and supporting communities affected by disasters.
