World Cup 2026: Ghana spent $1.26m on spectator tickets - Sports Minister tells Parliament

Ghana spent approximately $1.26 million on spectator tickets for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has told Parliament's Youth and Sports Committee.

The minister disclosed the figure when he appeared before the committee to brief lawmakers on Ghana's participation in the tournament, which was hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada.

According to Adams, the government purchased 2,922 tickets for the Black Stars' three group-stage matches against Panama, England and Croatia.

A breakdown of the figures showed that 948 tickets were acquired for the opening match against Panama, 1,000 for the clash with England and 974 for the final group game against Croatia.

"We spent about $1.26 million on the procurement of the 2,922 tickets," Adams told the committee.

The minister said the beneficiaries included members of the Ghana Supporters Union, officials of Ghana's High Commissions in the United States and Canada, Ghanaians living abroad, the Ghana Students Association, members of the official government delegation and selected officials of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

He explained that the ticket purchases formed part of measures aimed at supporting Ghana's participation at the tournament and ensuring a strong presence of Ghanaian supporters at matches.

The Black Stars played four matches at the World Cup, opening their campaign against Panama before facing England and Croatia in the group stage. Ghana progressed to the Round of 32, where they were eliminated by Colombia in Kansas City.
