U-20 Women's World Cup: Stay positive and believe in yourselves - Asamoah Gyan tells Black Princesses after elimination

Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has encouraged the Black Princesses to remain focused on their future despite their early exit from the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup.

Ghana's campaign ended in disappointment on Sunday as they suffered a 4-0 defeat by France in their final Group C match, extending their run of group-stage eliminations at the tournament to eight consecutive appearances.

Charles Sampson's side entered the game knowing only a win would secure a place in the knockout stages, but they couldn't overcome the European side as their World Cup journey came to an end.

After the defeat, Gyan, who serves as an ambassador for Ghana's national teams, visited the squad to offer encouragement and inspire the players ahead of the next stage of their careers.

"Sometimes, you don't get what you want," Gyan told the team.

"You always have your wishes, but not every wish that you make comes true.

"What I will tell you is that whatever has happened today, we should take it in good faith and move on in life. That is how you challenge yourself."

The former Black Stars striker urged the players to view the setback as an opportunity for growth rather than a defining moment in their careers.

"In life, you challenge yourself when things go wrong, not when things get better," he said.

"When things go wrong, that is when you challenge yourself and ask yourself questions: 'What am I going to do next?'"

Gyan also reassured the players that greater opportunities still lie ahead despite the disappointment of their World Cup campaign.

"I know some of you will be asking yourselves, 'Where do we go from here? What are we going to do?' But I can assure you that nobody knows tomorrow," he added.

"So just have faith in yourself, keep working hard in training and keep your faith high."

The Black Princesses are expected to return to Ghana in the coming days as the tournament moves into the knockout stages.
