Free-agent Jordan Ayew joins Sheffield United on one-year deal

Ghana captain Jordan Ayew has joined Championship side Sheffield United on a one-year contract following the expiration of his deal with Leicester City.

The 34-year-old forward arrives at Bramall Lane as a free agent and becomes the final addition to Chris Wilder's 25-man squad for the season.

Ayew's move comes just months after captaining Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he started all four matches as the Black Stars progressed to the knockout stages, including a goalless draw against England.

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder welcomed the signing, revealing the club moved swiftly to secure the experienced attacker.

"I spoke last week about being close to getting someone in from the free agent market, and things did move quite quickly, so I am really pleased to have Jordan with us," Wilder said.

The Blades boss highlighted Ayew's wealth of experience and versatility across the forward line.

"We're talking about someone here with bags of experience from right at the top level of the game. Only a few months ago he was captaining Ghana in the World Cup, so he's someone with real pedigree.

"He did well at this level last season in difficult circumstances and has played all across the front positions during his career, which gives us plenty of options."

Ayew arrives with more than 500 senior appearances to his name, having featured for clubs including Marseille, Sochaux, Lorient, Aston Villa, Swansea City, Crystal Palace and Leicester City.

The Ghana international will now look to add further experience and attacking quality to Wilder's side as Sheffield United target a strong Championship campaign.
