Kotoko fans urged to back club's revival, says former board member Alhaji Abu Lamini

Former Asante Kotoko board member Alhaji Abu Lamini has praised the club's new leadership for showing early signs of ambition, but says supporters must play their part by turning out in large numbers if the Porcupine Warriors are to reclaim their former status.

He pointed to the club's recruitment drive, the appointment of South African coach Erik Tinkler and the arrival of former Ajax and Netherlands goalkeeper Stanley Menzo as director of football as evidence that Kotoko are building a side capable of challenging for major honours.

Lamini believes those investments must now be matched by renewed commitment from the club's supporters as Kotoko seek to restore their standing and bring honour to the club's Life Patron, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and Asanteman.

He said reconnecting with the club's traditionally large fan base would be central to that revival, urging supporters to fill the Baba Yara Stadium and travel to away matches to inspire the team.

"As supporters of the club, the least we can do is to turn up in our numbers at Kotoko matches and support our great club to win because our players get motivated and energised when they see the Kotoko faithful in their numbers at the stadium," he told Graphic Sports.

He added: "It is a sad reflection on this great club to see only a handful of supporters at Kotoko matches."

Kotoko began their 2026-27 Ghana Premier League campaign with a 2-2 draw against newcomers Debibi United at Golden City Park in Berekum on Sunday.
