A Mazda CX-7 has been completely destroyed by fire on the Accra-Kumasi Highway at Akyem Asafo in the Eastern Region.
The incident occurred on Monday, September 7, after the owner reportedly heard an unusual sound from the engine and stopped to inspect the vehicle.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the owner noticed smoke coming from underneath the vehicle shortly after parking, before it suddenly burst into flames.
Bystanders attempted to help by overturning the vehicle, a move the service say intensified the fire.
“The owner reported an unusual sound from the engine, he parked to check, and saw smoke from underneath before the vehicle burst into flames. Bystanders overturned the vehicle and that intensified the fire,” the GNFS said in a statement.
The Bunso Fire Station received the distress call at 10:33am and dispatched a seven-member crew led by ADO II Amankwah Dacosta, which arrived at the scene at 10:49am.
The firefighters used foam concentrate to bring the fire under control at 11:10am.
No casualties were recorded, but the vehicle was completely destroyed in the incident.
The GNFS said the cause of the fire was under investigation.
The vehicle fire was one of two incidents attended to by the Bunso Fire Station on Monday.
