Believe in your talent and play with courage - Black Princesses backed by government ahead of U-20 Women's World Cup

The Black Princesses of Ghana have received a strong message of support from the government ahead of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Poland, with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation urging the team to play with confidence and inspire the next generation of female footballers.

In a goodwill message dated 4 September 2026, Sports Minister Kofi Iddie Adams, through the Ministry, praised the team's achievement in reaching the global tournament and reminded the players of the hopes they carry as representatives of Ghana on the world stage.

"As you step onto the world stage in Poland, you carry with you the hopes of a nation that believes deeply in your talent, your courage and what you can become," the statement said.

The message highlighted Ghana's remarkable consistency at youth level, noting that the country has now qualified for the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup for eight consecutive editions.

According to the Ministry, that achievement reflects the growing strength and potential of women's football in Ghana, while also offering the current squad an opportunity to write its own chapter in the nation's sporting history.

"For eight consecutive editions, Ghana has earned its place among the world's best at the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. That consistency speaks to the enormous potential within women's football in our country. But every generation must be allowed to write its own story. This is yours," the message added.

The Black Princesses secured qualification after a successful campaign and have spent recent weeks preparing for the tournament despite concerns over injuries to several key players ahead of the competition.

Ghana have been drawn in a challenging group alongside Ecuador, South Korea and France, with the Ministry encouraging the players to trust their preparation and compete fearlessly against their opponents.

"When you face Ecuador, Korea Republic and France, play with confidence. Trust your preparation. Trust one another. Compete for every ball and every minute," the statement read.

Beyond results on the pitch, the government stressed the wider significance of the team's participation, describing the players as role models for young girls across the country.

"There are young girls in schools, communities and football academies across Ghana who will watch you and see possibilities for themselves," the Ministry said.

"The Government, the Ministry of Sports and Recreation and the people of Ghana stand firmly behind you."

The message concluded with a rallying call for the team to represent the nation with courage and unity.

"Play with freedom. Play with courage. Play for one another. Go well, Black Princesses. Ghana believes in you."

The Black Princesses will be aiming to make a significant impact in Poland as they seek to advance from a group featuring three strong opponents and continue Ghana's proud tradition at FIFA women's youth competitions.
