Ghana midfielder Ibrahim Sulemana has completed a season-long loan move from Atalanta to Sassuolo, ensuring he remains in Serie A for the 2026-27 campaign.

The 23-year-old sealed the switch on transfer deadline day, with Sassuolo securing an option to make the deal permanent on a three-year contract at the end of the loan spell.

Born in Sunyani, Sulemana returns to Sassuolo after spending the second half of last season on loan at Cagliari.

The move followed an earlier stint at Bologna during the first half of the 2025-26 campaign, before he returned to parent club Atalanta in January and was subsequently loaned out again.

Atalanta signed the defensive midfielder from Cagliari in July 2024 for a reported fee of €7.4m after he had impressed in Serie A.

Sulemana had previously joined Cagliari from Hellas Verona, where he progressed through the club's youth ranks before breaking into senior football.

Despite his experience in Italy's top flight, Sulemana is yet to feature in Serie A or the UEFA Conference League qualifying rounds during the opening weeks of the new season.

At international level, Sulemana made his senior debut for Ghana in June 2024 during a FIFA World Cup qualifier against Mali.

He came on as a late substitute in Ghana's dramatic 2-1 victory and has since earned seven caps for the Black Stars.
